Liam

Letter 39 – Liam

Dear Garrett,

Liam died. You were so shocked to hear it. We all were. I never expected it. I thought he was doing well. I wanted him to be doing well. You were in high school. A junior. The two of you had such a history together. Good friends, true friends, followed by a slow divergence.

I know you still saw him every now and then, but I don’t know for what reason and I don’t know to what extent. I know you loved his sister like she was your sister. You would sometimes say to me, out of nowhere, I can’t believe Laim died. I can’t believe he died.

It was only several months after you died that we found out from his mother that Liam had not killed himself, as everyone had first believed. He had been killed, and the person responsible had gone to the police to confess. I’m sorry you never knew that. How I wish that you had known that before you died.

It’s possible that Liam is with you now, wherever you are. And that would be good. I wouldn’t mind that you two were friends again.
